The world is increasingly suffering from natural disasters attributed to climtate-change. Frequent flooding is not only happening anymore in the global south, but also in Europe and the US, with the resulting disruption and fatal victims. Today, the fight against such disasters focuses mostly on responding once the disaster has happened (Response). While this is of crucial importance, it is equally important to focus on preparedness. Countries that are prepared can be more efficient in the response phase, reducing the amount of fatal victims, as well as the economic and societal disruption.
In this panel, we will discuss how to be prepared for natural disasters, how AI & data plays a key role, and what challenges hinder preparedness. The panel will also show concrete and real examples of preparedness, an provide an open source data platform, and announce the Mobile Resilient Initiative, a global community for preparedness.
